Salzkammergut
This charming area, with clear lakes and scenic mountains in the Western end of Austria is well known as the place where the "sound of music took place. It is a paradise for hiking, biking and all kinds of water sports. The "Estate of the Salt Chamber" (the literal translation of the name) was a source of wealth in the middle ages when salt, that was mined in this area was one of the most important and expensive trading goods.
