Just a few miles north of Munich is Dachau, well known because there was the first concentration camp of the Nazis. And even though it was just a small camp (and there is no way to compare it with the big extermination camps like Auschwitz), Dachau was extremely important for the system of concentration camps in Germany. It was used as a cruel laboratory to improve the effectiveness of the death machinery. All the SS troops were trained here - Dachau is a textbook example for all the other camps. For sure, not a nice place on your tour in Bavaria but very important to understand Germans and their history.
